The Austrian Cultural Forum London wishes to use the presidency of the Council of the European Union as an opportunity to cast a spotlight on the importance of art and culture in a common European cultural space. To pursue this objective, it has not only put on an Austrian photo exhibition entitled FacingAustria, but has also developed a pan-European project.
The open‑air exhibition features photos depicting European cultural heritage by photographers from all 28 EU member states. Austria would like to show that the European cultural space is diverse yet bears similarities, and that the United Kingdom continues to be a member of the European family. The open‑air exhibition – which is located in the King’s Cross area, one of London’s busiest locations and a growing hub for the creative scene and digital industry – also sends out a clear European message in the United Kingdom.
The exhibition is also part of the European Year of Cultural Heritage.
