Austrian Jazz meets Belgian Jazz – Mario Rom‘s Interzone (AT), Compro Oro (BE) – Félix Zurstrassen Trio (BE), HI5 (AT)
Two consecutive days are dedicated to meetings between Austrian and Belgian Jazz.
18 September, 19:30: The three young Austrians from Mario Rom’s Interzone play real jazz, their motto is “anything goes”. The international press praises the trio for its virtuosity and captivating melodies. The jazz band Compro Oro from Ghent plays in the tradition of Afro-Cuban music – a pure discovery of jazz performed with virtuosity in a vibrant atmosphere of southern climes.
19 September, 19:30: The Tyrolean band HI5 has little in common with traditional jazz. The group’s sound is impossible to categorize stylistically, displaying thus elements of modern jazz, Prog Rock, Trip-Hop, chamber music, and electronics. The music of the Belgian Félix Zurstrassen Trio has a melodic sound that is novel and demanding. In 2017, the front man and bassist Félix Zurstrassen won the Young Talent jazz prize awarded by SABAM, the Belgian Association of Authors, Composers and Publishers.
