23rd Forum of National Ethics Councils

From 17 to 18 September 2018 the 23rd Forum of National Ethics Councils will take place in Vienna under the Austrian Presidency of the Council of the European Union. The forum will focus on ways to deal with artificial intelligence technologies and current questions on data protection in research.
The event will be opened by Heinz Faßmann, Federal Minister for Education, Science and Research; Christiane Druml, President of the Austrian Bioethics Commission; and Wolfgang Burtscher, Deputy Director‑General of DG Research and Innovation of the European Commission.Panel discussions on “Ethics of artificial intelligence” and “Research ethics and the Data Protection Regulation” as well as project presentations and reports on national and international activities will follow. Two working groups on the “Ethics of open science” and “Ethics of innovation” will conclude the day.
