Joint Meeting of Chief Medical, Dental and Nursing Officers (CMOs, CNOs and CDOs): Healthcare responses to public health challenges – organisational strategies for improving health literacy, tackling antimicrobial resistance and supporting vulnerable groups

Healthcare and public health continue for the most part to be two separate worlds. Taking into account the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the EU as well as international and Austrian experiences this meeting aims to show why stronger interconnections between both areas are not only beneficial for public health but can also improve the quality of healthcare. Due to the increase in chronic diseases, where occurrence and development depend strongly on the way of life of the person concerned, and due to current demographic developments a change needs to take place. We have to get away from a healthcare system and medical treatment organisations that are still oriented towards acute care and establish more comprehensive healthcare that shows a stronger orientation towards public health. Based on four examples we would like to take a close look at the relevant challenges and possible solutions: boosting health literacy, handling the increase in antimicrobial resistance, reaching vulnerable groups and providing them with adequate treatment and the systematic further development of healthcare systems and organisations while taking into account the mentioned topics. The meeting agenda comprises a total of five plenary sessions and a time slot for parallel interactive workshops.
