Informal meeting of agriculture ministers

The informal meeting of agriculture ministers will take place on 23‑25 September 2018 in Schloss Hof in Lower Austria. In addition to the meeting proper, which will focus on topical issues related to the content of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) reform, the ministers will on Monday 24 September visit various agricultural businesses in the “Bucklige Welt” region. The EU member state representatives will thereby gain an insight into the structures and diversity of Austrian agriculture.

The ministerial discussion on 25 September will centre on the topic “CAP post 2020 – Shaping the future of vital rural areas and quality food production in the European Union”. Participants will discuss both the importance of CAP instruments, with a focus on family businesses, as well as the promotion of sustainable production of high‑quality food while at the same time boosting the competitiveness of European farmers.

Renowned Austrian cook Sarah Wiener will also address the topic of food quality and make a statement in which she presents the point of view of a successful entrepreneur to the agriculture ministers.
